Writing for Wine

From Grape to Glass
Nan McCreary grew up in a newspaper family in Iowa and started her writing career by publishing "Neighborhood News" at the age of eight. She has been writing actively ever since, whether on a yellow legal pad, an old Underwood typewriter, a Smith Corona electric, a computer with Word Star and 64K of memory, and finally, on a 21st-century laptop.

Nan's 50-plus years of writing experience includes writing video scripts, press releases, magazine articles, newsletters, advertising copy, training materials, instructional manuals and web content.

She has written for the safety, finance, construction and computer software industries and, most recently, the wine trade. She is a frequent  contributor to The Arbor Magazine, the official publication of the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine, Inc., and serves as a writer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Committee. She is also a contributing writer for the Grapevine Magazine. She holds a Level III Certification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and a Certified Specialist of Wine award from the Society of Wine Educators, and is a certified French Wine Scholar. Nan regularly attends wine education classes at the Texas Wine School in Houston.

Nan is an active volunteer in the Houston community and is a member of the Friends of CanCare Board of Directors, the Magazine Committee and the Wine Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine,  the Women of Wine Charities, the Professional Women's Exchange Group of Houston and the Professional Group.

Nan  holds a B.A. degree in journalism from the University of Iowa.  While at the University, she was enrolled for two years in the internationally acclaimed Writer's Workshop.
